Alisha Houston-Rhoads serves as the Director of Girasol Dual Language Preschool. She received her bachelor's degree in Bilingual Education from the University of Houston. In 2010, she received her master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Clear Lake and her Principal's Certification from Texas Educational Agency.
Ms. Alisha has 9 years of experience working as certified elementary bilingual educator in Texas. This includes working as a bilingual classroom teacher, bilingual special education teacher and a bilingual Reading and Social Studies Specialist and Literacy Coach for grades pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. While working in the education field, she received several Texas Education Agency teaching certifications that have qualified her to effectively teach native Spanish speaking children in Spanish, Spanish as a second language, English as a second language, and how to differentiate instruction according to each student's individual needs and strengths. Ms. Alisha is a mother of two beautiful young girls who have inspired her to create a school that provides the best care, education and language experiences for each child, in short, the kind of preschool experience that she would want her children to have. Her passion and drive are to make sure that Girasol Dual Language Preschool provides the most high quality education available for students preparing for kindergarten.
The staff at Girasol Dual Language Preschool meets the licensing requirements to teach in a licensed facility in the state of Texas. All employees have had background checks, been fingerprinted and are trained in CPR and First Aid. In addition to meeting the requirements given by the State of Texas, at Girasol Dual Language Preschool, we have two degreed teachers and one teacher assistant co-teaching students in the classroom. Our degreed teachers are specialized and experienced in early childhood education and use researched-based techniques along with proven best practices in education and second language acquisition to create an effective, engaging, and emotionally nurturing learning environment. Our educators are native Spanish speakers or have native-like proficiency in Spanish, which helps students to acquire a near-native accent and proper Spanish grammar. Our teachers are also fluent in English, which allows them to communicate effectively with English speaking parents and help our students to continue to excel in their English language skills.
